We see the trouble. We can’t see this.

I couldn’t sleep. I woke up early thinking about this world (and, to be honest, my own little world and some things heavy on my heart). I was reminded again of my study of Daniel— Daniel is praying fervently as the Lord, through Gabriel, explains the things which are to come— the destruction of Jerusalem,Continue reading “We see the trouble. We can’t see this.”

The world is hard. The Bible is God-breathed to help us.

Even when Jesus walked the earth, there were those who pretended to be righteous. They wanted to deliver Him to the power and authority of the governor. They wanted to catch Him in something so the government could contain, control, and ultimately condemn Him. But He perceived their craftiness (Luke 20:23). And so should we!Continue reading “The world is hard. The Bible is God-breathed to help us.”

When we are tempted to fear…

I can’t remember what had caused me to fear way back then, I just remember her response. Oh, how I miss my wise friend. She’s with Jesus now. She told me, “When the world is crazy, when you don’t know what to do, draw closer to Jesus. Be prepared to give an answer for theContinue reading “When we are tempted to fear…”

Because of Jesus, we really can face tomorrow.

We all mourn things. Life includes hard, tragic, disappointing, and sad moments. No one is immune. You can’t wrap yourself up in a bubble and avoid it. You’re going to miss out on the best of life if you try to do so. What’s crazy is that as I walk this life, I continue toContinue reading “Because of Jesus, we really can face tomorrow.”

Asking…

I was so sad. For some reason, our cuckoo clock had crashed to the floor and had been laying,in pieces, on my dining room table, for weeks. We had bought it years ago when our young family lived overseas. I walked by as my husband, reading glasses perched on his nose, and pliers in hisContinue reading “Asking…”

Day In. Day Out. Worth It!

Like many of you, I have the Bible on my smart phone, but there is just something special about “my” printed copy of God’s Word. Holding it in my hands, I remember the days when I underlined the pages, some of them wrinkled from my tears. It’s a history, tattered, highlighted, and written-on of JesusContinue reading “Day In. Day Out. Worth It!”

When my heart feels faithless.

I was already late to the women’s ministry meeting as a glanced at the church sign as I drove quickly by. “One prayer can change everything”. “Well, Lord,” I thought, “I’ve prayed about a thousand times about_____and nothing has changed.” I surprised myself. Oh, me of little faith. And here I was speeding to myContinue reading “When my heart feels faithless.”

He hasn’t forgotten. He can’t.

I held her in my arms yesterday for the very first time. She’s tiny. Smaller than we expected but, oh, how that little one has filled my heart. A grand baby.A grand daughter. After quite a scare, safely here. And this morning, when I awoke, she joined the others, the ones I love so dearly, in myContinue reading “He hasn’t forgotten. He can’t.”

“Tell them what you read.”

“Tell them what you read” Ben prodded his brilliant, but humbly reserved wife, Katie, as we sat at dinner on our back porch last night to, “Tell them what you read”. How my heart hoped it was good news given all that has occurred in our country, and especially in a New York courtroom thisContinue reading ““Tell them what you read.””

Is God shaking us?

What happened yesterday should concern us all when it comes to liberty and justice—regardless of which side of the political isle you sit. Still, there’s a part of me that holds out hope that the vote in November may help us return to more conservative values and religious freedom. (Yes, I think one candidate betterContinue reading “Is God shaking us?”

Need some comfort?

This morning my heart needs to remember this. Maybe yours does too. David cried out to God, “Do not forsake the works of thy hands” (Psalm 138:8). And God won’t forsake us, the works of His hands, and here’s one way we can know this— God spoke the heavens and the earth into being soContinue reading “Need some comfort?”

Keep Praying for this- there’s strength there.

“Your kingdom come. Your will be done on Earth as it is in Heaven”. (Matt 6:10) And with those words, my prayers seem quite lacking. For so often, I’ve prayed for my will to be done without giving enough thought to if what I’m asking for is His will. Honestly, I’ve spent way too muchContinue reading “Keep Praying for this- there’s strength there.”

Not every situation ends in disappointment

Not every situation ends in disappointment. Those of us who are eternally minded, especially those with hearts for others to truly know the life and peace found in Christ, need to remember this. Yes, we live in a spiritual war zone, and we have seen those we desperately want to walk toward Jesus, walk away.Continue reading “Not every situation ends in disappointment”

Are you standing on hard ground?

Jesus talks of two situations where God’s people die—and asks the question, were these people worse sinners than others who dwelt in Jerusalem and then, He says, unless you repent you will also perish. (Luke 13:1-5) We know this. We know we need to repent of our sins. But right after that, Jesus talks aboutContinue reading “Are you standing on hard ground?”

When those we thought godly, walk away.

I’m not sure if anything comes as close to rattling my faith as when people, I thought godly, walk away from Jesus and do ungodly things. This was exactly what was happening in the church in Corinth. We see it today as some continue to choose the praise of men and compromise with the worldContinue reading “When those we thought godly, walk away.”

Will you be able to stand?

Right now, we are seeing the winds of hard days and our “cancel culture” blowing away those who aren’t planted with deep roots in biblical truth. Psalm 1 compares those who follow God to a strong tree planted by rivers of refreshing water and goes on to say, “The ungodly are not so, but areContinue reading “Will you be able to stand?”

Why are so many young adults walking away?

I continue to watch this happen. It breaks my heart….So many young adults are walking away from the church–deciding the world has so much more to offer. Why? Why are so many deciding Jesus really isn’t for them? Perhaps they are willing to “sell Him so cheaply” because they also bought into Him so cheaply.Continue reading “Why are so many young adults walking away?”

How do we stand fast when the world is falling apart?

“Therefore, brethren, stand fast and hold the traditions which you were taught, whether by word or our epistle.” (2 Thess 2:15) One of my favorite preachers, Doug Sager, who is with Jesus now, used to say “When you are reading the Bible and see “therefore” ask what it’s there for.” I can still hear hisContinue reading “How do we stand fast when the world is falling apart?”

A few thoughts on marriage from a slow learner…

I am convinced more than ever that marriages, particularly those in the church, are under attack. And so, I felt led to share a few things I’ve learned as a wife over the years. I’m sure many of you could add more and are welcome to do so in the comments below. Here are mine—Continue reading “A few thoughts on marriage from a slow learner…”
