Keep Asking

No doubt, this Christmas, many of us will see, or think about, friends and family for whom we have prayed for years.

Many of us are facing situations that threaten to steal our joy.

Honestly, I’ve grown tired of my own asking about some things in my life.

I’ve prayed and asked and, at times, I’ve felt like giving up.

At times, I’ve felt like God hasn’t heard me, or didn’t want to get involved.

To be completely honest, some things have been so hard that I’ve even had moments that I’ve wondered if He were there.

But my feelings are not fact, nor are they faith.

The Bible says faith comes from hearing and hearing from the Word of God (Rom 10:17) and it is exactly there that my doubts are again erased and my hope repeatedly restored.

And God’s Word tells us to keep asking. In fact, be impudent when doing so.

In Luke 11, Jesus tells the somewhat odd story of the man knocking and knocking on his friend’s closed door, asking for bread.

Jesus says, it is not the friendship that compels the father, who is in bed with his children, to get up but the man’s impudence.

Webster defines “impudence” as brazenness or boldness.

Jesus is telling us to keep asking and keep praying, with boldness!

He knew we’d feel like giving up…

He knew we would face situations that seem downright hopeless.

But we are to keep asking and to keep praying with boldness.

Jesus goes on to tell us, in that same passage, that as much as we long for good things for those we love…that He is a perfect Father and His desires for us, and those we love, are even better and all good. (Luke 11:11-13)

So keep knocking.
Keep asking.

Keep praying boldly in faith, not based on your feelings, because those are wishy-washy at times for us all, but pray in faith that is based on the rock-solid Word of God.

And Luke 11 assures us our Heavenly Father hears our prayers.

Yes, He hears what you are praying about, and He is at work.

And that is truly no small thing.

  1. Good day Kim and Merry Christmas to you and family.
My prayers were answered this week. I’ve been praying for months for my 99 year old mother to die peacefully at the right time. And God answered.
She was basically healthy for her age; was still mobile, had basic faculties though hard of hearing and seeing, and was losing short term memory but not enough to be life threatening. She never wanted to be a burden on others and she was afraid of alzheimers and being 100. Her 100th birthday would have been in 6 weeks.
God took her home, thankfully a believer, quiet, peacefully and without pain; her heart stopped beating.
Rick and I had traveled here to be with her for a week and we were here for her when she needed us and got to be with her the morning before she passed at lunch.
A very sad, but joyful time. God does answer prayers about parents in His perfect time.
Be encouraged that He does hear you and knows the best timing, even when we don’t seem to agree with His timing.
Looking back, it was just perfect for this situation.
    Many hugs
