Have you thought about the eight long days after Easter? Have you thought about Thomas?
A Risen Jesus appeared to the disciples in the locked room (seemingly walking through a wall). Thomas missed that and utters the words he is famous for, “Unless I see in his hands the mark of the nails, and place my hands into his side, I will never believe.” (John 20:25)
Eight days would pass before Jesus would appear to a doubting Thomas.
Eight LONG days.
The others had seen Jesus—but Thomas still wondered, still doubted, still couldn’t quite believe.
But he stayed.
Thomas didn’t run away.
Thomas didn’t look for answers in all the wrong places.
Thomas continued to be with others who had seen the Risen Savior…and he waited.
He waited in his doubts.
Though he doubted, Thomas continued to put himself in places where he might see the Lord.
He didn’t run away in his doubts.
He didn’t run to earthly answers.
And nor should we.
Oh friend, don’t run away in your doubts—when things happen you don’t understand, when others seem to “get it” but you don’t.
Keep seeking Truth. Go to church anyway. Read the Bible anyway. Seek God anyway.
Ask God to show Himself to you.
He will make His presence known. He will bring the peace you long for.
Hold on!
He loves you too much to do otherwise.
