Monday Morning Hope

Honestly when I take my eyes off Jesus, I get off base.

When I look at this world, it’s the same.

When I look to Jesus, it is there, and only there that my thinking becomes clear.

There is only ONE hope for man. There is only One Name by which man may be saved.

Jesus.
Jesus in us.

My hope is built on nothing less than Jesus’ blood and righteousness.

I dare not trust—
this world,
A social movement,
A political party,
the government,
NOTHING

But Jesus.
Only Jesus.

My eyes are to remain on Him.
My heart and my actions must be guided by His Word.
Daily.
One day at a time.

Because my heart is prone to wander and be discouraged.
I’m prone to leave the God I love and look for hope where hope cannot last.

It’s more and more evident that this world is sad, and hard, and falling apart.

It’s easy to look at it and become discouraged.
Distraught.

When I notice feeling this way, this reminds me my flesh still wants to hope in things I can see and is still apt to fall apart when those things fall apart.

But, I’m reminded, again, that standing on anything but the promises of God is is sinking sand.
ALL other ground is sinking sand.

Hope is found nowhere else but Jesus.

Jesus inside of us.
Jesus working in and through us.
Jesus.
Only Jesus.

For as we surrender our will to His, as we cast our cares on Him, as we die to self and love unselfishly, as we take our thoughts captive and test everything and hold on to the good, as He flows through us, to truly love others, to forgive those who have hurt us, His Kingdom advances. Hope is found.

This Monday morning, I remember that. This morning I reset my heart to know

“My hope is built on nothing less
Than Jesus Christ, my righteousness;
I dare not trust the sweetest frame,
But wholly lean on Jesus’ name.

On Christ, the solid Rock, I stand;
All other ground is sinking sand,
All other ground is sinking sand.

When darkness veils His lovely face,
I rest on His unchanging grace;
In every high and stormy gale,
My anchor holds within the veil.

His oath, His covenant, His blood,
Support me in the whelming flood;
When all around my soul gives way,
He then is all my hope and stay.

When He shall come with trumpet sound,
Oh, may I then in Him be found;
In Him, my righteousness, alone,
Faultless to stand before the throne”
(Mote)
