I’m a slow learner, but I can say with certainty, peace comes not from “fixed” circumstances -but rather from a heart fixed on God.
Specifically, to find peace, we must keep our thoughts fixed on Who He Is more than what we observe Him to do.
For if we tie our peace only to what we can observe God to do, we will find our emotions up when we like what we see, and down and confused as we don’t. Anyone know what I’m talking about?
The thing is, we certainly don’t see or understand everything from our limited human viewpoint. God’s ways are not our ways and He is clearly at work in ways we don’t see, and often through very hard things.
He says, “For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways,”
declares the Lord. “As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts””. ( Isa 55:8-9)
So when we focus on Who He is —He is all-good, patient, kind, loving etc…,we will find our peace and our trust to be steady.
Isaiah 26:3 says, “You will keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on You, because he trusts in You.”
And friend, that is truth we can stand on and peace we can have.
