There are times when I’ve longed for God to do just what I want Him to do when I want Him to do it.
If I’m honest, I’ve prayed prayers thinking I fully understand situations and know best how things should go for me and for those I love.
But He is God, who cannot be contained, who made the world and everything in it. (Acts 17:24).
“ And he made from one man every nation of mankind to live on all the face of the earth, having determined allotted periods and the boundaries of their dwelling place, “ (Acts 18:26)
He sovereignly controls everything. EVERY thing.
Like Job, who am I to counsel God about this world and how things should be? Who are you?
“Who is this that darkens counsel by words without knowledge?
Dress for action like a man;
I will question you, and you make it known to me.
Where were you when I laid the foundation of the earth?
Tell me, if you have understanding.
Who determined its measurements—surely you know!” (Job 38:2-5)
In Job and in Acts, God tells us He is in control of the allotted periods and boundaries of our lives in this world He created from nothing!
And unlike me or you, God always knows what is best.
And He not only knows, He controls these “allotted periods” and the “boundaries of our dwelling places” so that we might seek Him! (Acts 17:26-27)
Did you see that last part?? “So that we might seek Him! “
So we might seek Him and so those we are concerned about might seek Him too!
The last part of verse 27 says, “that they should seek God, and perhaps feel their way toward him and find him.”
To be sure, our One True God is majestically in control, never to be controlled Himself. Yet, He tenderly and intentionally places us, and those we love, right where He wants us so that we might “feel our way toward Him!”
Yes, we face hard times that we have prayed would never happen. Our loved ones do too. But God can and is using those hard things to draw us, and those we love, to Himself.
To be sure, our faithful, pursuing God controls all we can see, and all we can’t of this world and is orchestrating every detail to help His children “feel their way toward him and find Him.”
What love He has for us!
Friend, He sees you! He sees what you are going through. He is with you. He can work it to good!!
And He sees your prodigal child! He sees your lost husband.
And He loves them more than you do. He’s in control.
And all of that….that is no small thing!
Keep your eyes on Him. Keep following Him! Don’t get outside of His will-you’ll be in His way if you do.
May we keep trusting and praying, “God may your will be done! “
And may we rest in the peace and hope that brings.

thank you, Kim, for this powerful confirmation of Who God is and who I am not. I have a dear friend ( since high school) who is dying of ovarian cancer. She is in hospice and my pleas for her seem to fall on a hardened heart. BUT God knows. He knows the cries on her behalf and He knows His perfect plans.
