It’s hard to look at our world right now and not feel discouraged. Friend, after friend, have told me they have turned off the news.
I think many of us, who believe the Bible, and seek to live by Biblical principles, are increasingly feeling like aliens and strangers here as right is called “wrong” and wrong is paraded as “right” .
We are concerned for our kids and grandkids. We are concerned for the lost among us, and we wonder if we can make a difference.
If we are honest, we worry just how hard “hard” might get before Jesus comes to take us home.
And truthfully, just like everybody else, we long for some comfort that lasts longer than a bowl of ice cream.
I lay in my bed thinking about all of this at 4am. I thought about my sweet Bible study group last night and the encouragement I find there as we open the Word together.
Shortly before Jesus would die, He gave us instruction for days like this, recorded in John’s gospel. He said, “A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another: just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another. By this all people will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.” (John 13:34-35)
If we want this lost world to see the Lord, if we still have hope for revival, it will most likely come as the lost are drawn to Jesus by the LOVE they see in us.
What’s more, and what’s especially refreshing, is that as we deliberately love others and seek to refresh them, we are also refreshed (see Proverbs 11:25).
So, if you are feeling down, if you feel like you can’t do much to change this crazy world, the Lord tells us to deliberately seek out others to love, and as we do, we will be refreshed ourselves.
So, look around you. Who is hurting? Who needs help?
Did someone just come to your mind?
Why not pray for them AND ask the Lord to help you tangibly, actively, do something to love them today?
And as you do, notice this, you yourself will likely be encouraged.
Seriously, try it and let me know how it goes! God’s Word is so good! Let’s trust it enough to live it and watch Him work!

You’re so right, Kim. Thanks again for bringing the Bible’s teachings to my attention. There’s no better way to bring a person out of their own doldrums than to help another. Have a great day!
