But what if you are STRUGGLING to believe God?

Noah lived 350 years after the flood and dies. His descendants are listed in Genesis 10. The earth population grows.

At this point, all people spoke the same language and they decided to stay together and build a city and a tall tower in the plain of Shinar (Babylon). (Gen 11)

But remember, God had told them to spread out over all the earth (Gen 9:1)

But the people said, “Come, let us build ourselves a city and a tower with its top in the heavens, and let us make a name for ourselves, lest we be dispersed over the face of the whole earth.” (Gen 11:4)

So they built a tall tower out of bricks and asphalt (Gen 11:3). Why would they build a tall, waterproof tower “with its top in the heavens”? Perhaps, they didn’t believe God’s promise not to flood the earth again.

And when we don’t believe God, we are ripe for all kinds of trouble.

Oswald Chambers says, “The greatest need we have is not to DO things but to BELIEVE things.”

Think about it, isn’t it true that once we truly believe things the “doing” just follows?

But what if you are struggling to believe God about something?

What then?

Ask God to help your unbelief!

Yes, that’s okay!

When the father of a boy who needed healing asked Jesus to heal him (in Mark 9), Jesus said to him, “If you can believe, all things are possible to him who believes.” (9:23)

(And here’s the really COOL part…the part God included because God knows we need help believing Him sometimes)

“Immediately the father of the child cried out and said with tears, “Lord, I believe; help my unbelief!”” (Mark 9:24)

We, too, CAN ASK GOD to help our unbelief!!!

We can pray that!

Help me believe You God. Help me hold on. Help me follow You when your way doesn’t seem right or fair.

Help me believe when my eyes can’t see You , and my heart can’t feel You.

Help me believe when my life is falling apart, and I’m so afraid.

Help me believe You when everyone else in our culture is compromising your truth and running the other way.

Help me believe You when following You hasn’t worked out like I thought. Help me believe You when you don’t feel close, and I doubt your goodness.

Help me believe You when I don’t understand or like what You are doing.

Help me believe when the scientists try to disprove You and the culture mocks You.

Help me believe when I feel alone–like an alien and stranger in this world.

Help me believe You are really who You are and do what You say.

I believe-help my unbelief.

But this isn’t what those building the tower did.

And not only did these post-flood people not believe God, they said they desired to “make a name for ourselves”. (Gen 11:4)

Oh friend, any time we seek to make a name for ourselves instead of pointing to the Lord, we better be careful!

Doesn’t this sounds like the father of all lies who thought so very highly of himself that he was cast out of heaven?

We, who God created, cannot handle the GLORY deserved only by the Creator!

But shortly after the flood, as creation was barreling down the wrong road again, God graciously intervenes. He confuses the language of the people and scatters them all over the earth.

And so that tall tower, became known as the Tower of Babel.

gloire à Dieu!

gloria a Dios!

Ehre sei Gott!

kaluwalhatian sa Diyos!

榮耀歸於上帝

slava Bogu!
