Oh, Overwhelmed Heart

When my heart is overwhelmed, when I long for peace, joy and hope, I know I can no longer look to this world.

I have been led to the rock that is higher than I. (Ps 61:2)

I’ve tasted and seen that He alone is good. I have been blessed to take refuge in Him. (Ps 34:8)

I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God who loved me and gave Himself for me. (Gal 2:20)

The old has gone. The new has come. (2 Cor 5:17)

I can no longer be content to see others or myself the same.

Yet, I’m still clothed in an earthly body and my flesh still wars with the spirit within me. I do not do the things I want to do and do the things I don’t want to do. (Rom 7:15)

I still breathe in a world that continually vies for my affections.

Carefully, diligently, wholeheartedly, I must test everything and only hold on to the good. (1 Thess 5:21)

I have learned I cannot simultaneously live for Christ and the things of this world. I cannot serve two masters, to try is to be unstable in all my ways. (Matt 6:24, James 1:8)

I have tasted real life and found it comes not from fearing man or seeking to please others , but in reverentially fearing the One True God, and seeking to please Him alone. It is only there that I can rest content, not consumed by trouble. (Prov 19:23)

Yet my mind is ever weary and easily distracted—prone to wander. My heart is deceitful above all things. (Jer 17:9)

But the Savior of my soul, the One who sees all, knows all and is leading me to life to the full; He whispers, “In all your ways, acknowledge me and I will make your paths straight”. (Ps 33:13, 1 John 3:20, John 10:10, Prov 3:5-6)

His Word is a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path. (Ps 119:105)

His Holy Word is precious —breathed of God to keep me from stumbling and to give me peace beyond my earthly circumstances. His right hand upholds me. (2 Tim 3:16-17, Phil 4:17, Ps 63:8)

Until I’m home with Him, forever free of my flesh nature—His Word tells me to expect trouble, but to be of good cheer knowing my Savior has forever overcome the world. (John 16:33)

He alone is my righteousness. (1 Cor 1:30)

When I am weak, He is strong. (2 Cor 12:9-11)

When I am weak again, He is still strong.

When I fail Him again and again, He is faithful to forgive. Again and again. (1 John 1:9)

His mercies are new every morning. (Lam 3:22-23)

He removes my sin as far as the east is from the west. He remembers them no more. (Psalm 103:12, Heb 8:12)

I can trust Him at all times. I can pour out my heart to Him. He is a refuge for us. (Ps 62:8)

Blessed be God, Who has not turned away my prayer, Nor His mercy from me! (Ps 66:30)

And friend, that same Savior who set me free, and defeated sin and death, He won’t turn you away either. (John 6:37)

The God, who cannot lie, says, “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.”( Matt 11:28)

Soul rest, lasting hope, and peace that makes no sense will never be found in this world– in the next purchase, success, or relationship, but only in Him alone.

As you seek Him, as you turn your eyes upon Jesus, you will find Him. He will be your shield and the lifter of your head. (Jer 29:13, Ps 3:3)

Oh, when my heart is overwhelmed, when your heart is overwhelmed, in this day and in all to come, may we be led again and again to the Rock Who is forever and always, faithfully Higher. (Ps 61:2)

(Written a while back. Felt led to share again)

As always, I covet your prayers as I write.
