Christmas Eve

All across the world, Christians will gather to light candles in Christmas Eve services tonight.

We will likely hear the words of the prophet Isaiah— a people walking in darkness have seen a great light. (Isa 9:2)

What must it have been like all those thousands of years ago?

Christmas Eve —a people walking in darkness were about to see a great light…

THE great light.

Everything would change.

Good news of great joy!

God would come to us.

A far away God would become personal.

A personal Savior would come to dwell in us and never leave.

A God who would comfort, and guide, and protect. Again and again.

A friend who is closer than a brother.

I seldom take the time to remember what life was like before God came into my life, but Christmas Eve causes me to think of just that before-Jesus-darkness.

Before Jesus I was tossed to and fro by my circumstances and my feelings.

Before Jesus, I sat on the throne of my life constantly searching for a peace and joy that would last.

This dark world came up empty time and time again… but then His light shone in my darkness.

Christmas was no longer just a story when I understood that God left a throne in Heaven to come to earth—not to reign as an earthly king but to rescue ME -to take the penalty for MY sin, to die for me.

And He not only died for me, but He sent His Holy Spirit to live inside of me—never to leave me.

Everything changed.

The darkness of my own self rule was replaced with the light of peace and hope and joy of following Him.

Christmas comes because Christ came.

A people walking in darkness have seen a great light!!

I’ve seen the GREAT LIGHT! HE is THE CHRIST! The Savior of the world!

Oh praise His Name!!

Oh friend, do you know the light of the world? He stands with open arms ready to step into your darkness and bring you peace that this world can never offer. ❤️
