This world is full of temptation, trial, and false teachers. It’s easy to get discouraged, distracted and tired. This is exactly why we need God’s Word every day.
For sometime now, I’ve been drawn to the book of First John.
John. The beloved disciple. The son of Zebedee who, with his brother James, were called “The Sons of Thunder” by Jesus.
Can you imagine having a nickname given to you by God in flesh?!
Oh, to have seen what John’s eyes saw, to hear what his ears heard, to touch what his hands touched! ( 1 John 1:1).
John was an eyewitness to the miracles and ministry of Jesus Christ. The words he wrote are God-inspired truth, encouragement, and warning meant not just tor the early church but for our attention in this day and age.
John’s faith was a tested one. As he pens his letter, he had seen his friend, his Savior crucified. Peter and Paul had been executed, Jerusalem was destroyed, and the early church scattered.
Can you imagine the confusion and fear that surely assaulted John’s very human mind?
Yet, John found courage, comfort and direction as he remembered what he had seen, and heard, and touched; and with certainty, he wrote his letter to encourage others to hold on to these truths, because it is there, that joy may be full (I John 1:4)
It is the remembering, in the daily remembering of truth, that we find help to walk in the light where real joy is found—no matter how dark the world around us gets.
And the world around us feels pretty dark right now, doesn’t it? Temptation, trial and false teachers, as John warns us, abound. For this reason, let’s deliberately plant our feet in truth of the Word every day where hope is found.
Let’s read First John!
I hope you’ll open your Bible and read 1st John chapter one.
