When you remember there’s a wedding coming…

Kentucky lost one of its best basketball players to the NBA yesterday, Reed Sheppard.

My son, Ben, is a HUGE Kentucky fan.
He was pretty upset when he read the news.

But then.

He looks up from his phone and gets the biggest smile, and says, “But I’m getting married.”

And a week from Saturday, Ben is getting married. And remembering this, has certainly changed Ben’s outlook on what would normally depress him for days. 😉

And I thought about Jesus.

I thought about the Church being the Bride of Christ. I thought about how remembering there will be a Wedding Feast of the Lamb truly changes everything for those who know Jesus as Lord.

Oh, we can temporarily get down as we look at this world and our circumstances. There are indeed hard things here that are much more troublesome than losing a star basketball player.

Israel sent bombs to nuclear sites in Iran last night. Our government seems to consistently disappoint me in their choices. I have a dear friend going through a tough marriage issue. I have some hard things going on in my own life that I’m not able to share yet, and I know many of you do too.

But when I think about Jesus, and how He can bring good things from hard things (Rom 8:28), and how one day He will wipe away every tear (Rev 21:4), …when I deliberately focus on the truth from His Word…my spirits are lifted. I am no longer bound by my circumstances or only what my human eyes can see.

And friend, that brings real peace. That brings a smile to my face.

Let’s remind ourselves and each other, we don’t have to fear the future when Christ is our hope.

Oh friend, the King, the Bridegroom, the One who defeated death and cannot lie (Heb 6:18), He is coming again to make all things new! (Rev 21:25)

May our hearts hope in Him and may our feet be quick to follow! May we look up and smile when we think about the future. (Providence 31:25)

What a Savior!
