In John 11, her brother, Lazarus, had died and Martha sits mourning with friends and her sister, Mary. They are told Jesus is coming.
Martha bursts out of the house and goes to meet Him.
She ran to Jesus.
Martha is absolutely devastated over her brother’s death, but she STILL ran to Jesus.
She says to Him, “Lord, if you had been here my brother would not have died. But even now, I know whatever you ask from God, God will give you.” (John 11:21-22).
BUT EVEN NOW! …Martha knew.
In her devastation, even as she knew God could have stopped what had happened, even though she knew God could have chosen to prevent her pain, Martha ran to Jesus; and with incredible faith, knew her hope was STILL in Jesus.
But even now.
And as she held on, in the hardest of hards, with “but even now” faith; Martha found Jesus to be so much more than friend or teacher, she discovered Him to be Lord, the Christ, the powerful Son of God! (John 11:27).
Right now, I have friends who are facing devastating circumstances.
Maybe you are too.
They know God could have stopped all their pain. They know He could have chosen another way.
Maybe you know that too.
But these friends of mine have “but even now” faith like Martha.
And in the midst of the trial, before any answers or resolution have come…just like Martha…they, too, are experiencing an intimacy with the Savior like never before.
You, absolutely can experience this too!
Oh friend, BUT EVEN NOW, for whatever you may be facing, keep running to Jesus.
He is the Christ! He is the powerful Son of God! He is the resurrection and the life. Whoever believes in Him, shall live!
Life, hope, peace, can be found in the middle of whatever has happened in your life, “but even now”, as you keep holding on to Jesus.
Don’t let go! He is the God who holds us close, and holds us together, and is still at work for you and those you love, in the “but even now”moments of life!
And this life, it’s not all there is. But even now, let’s encourage each other to hold tight to the One who will wipe every tear away.
