Love thoughts…this Valentines Day…
It’s not enough they thought …the love of God.
They needed God plus….
an apple for Eve, a bowl of stew for Esau,
If only Sarah could have a child of her own when she wanted it, if Joseph’s brothers could have Jacob’s chief affection…
If the children of Israel could just worship a god they could see like that golden calf…
If Samson just had Delilah and David had Bathsheba…
If the Kings and people of Israel could just keep their little idols…
If we could just have Jesus plus coffee, plus a skinny body, plus a million dollars, plus a romantic husband….
….all that sounds silly but the truth is…
If any person, or anything, or any circumstance could satisfy the hearts and minds of men….we would have been satisfied by now.
All the hopes and struggles, all the wishes and wants, will always come up empty when our eyes fall on things of this world.
As we celebrate this day for human love…this Valentines Day, many of us have so much to be thankful for.
I love my husband and he loves me.
But, he’s not enough for me and I’m not enough for him.
Neither is any human relationship, material thing or wonderful circumstance.
Like every other human, I have a longing in my heart that can never be satisfied by earthly things or earthly relationships.
If we are honest, we know, even the best of every good thing still leaves us longing for something more….
My heart was made to love and worship God. And so was yours.
Only He can satisfy.
Yes, God blesses us with good things to enjoy on this earth… but none of those good things can take the place of God in our lives.
They were never meant to.
When we long for anything or anyone more than Him, we come up empty…
EVERY.
SINGLE.
TIME.
And so, on this day to celebrate human love…if you find yourself longing for a man (or wishing you had found “a better one than the one you have”)… know this,…Jesus alone can satisfy!
He is the only “enough”.
Seek Him first.
It’s funny, but so true, that it is when we delight ourselves in the Lord that He gives us the desires of our hearts (Psalm 37:4).
Is God your everything, your Rock, your solid ground, your first love?
When He is what you seek with all your heart, you will find Him (Jer 29:13-14)
There is absolutely nothing that can compare to the love of Christ!
He loves you so very much!!
“What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us? He who did not spare his own Son but gave him up for us all, how will he not also with him graciously give us all things? Who shall bring any charge against God’s elect? It is God who justifies. Who is to condemn? Christ Jesus is the one who died—more than that, who was raised—who is at the right hand of God, who indeed is interceding for us. Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or danger, or sword? As it is written,“For your sake we are being killed all the day long; we are regarded as sheep to be slaughtered.”No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.
(ROM 8:31-39)
❤️And that’s my Valentine. How I love just riding around in the truck with this Jesus-loving man while he works!
