Simple way to PEACE

You know, when I think about it, a lot of my walk with Jesus, and learning to trust Him, has been pretty simple.

I’d read a verse, then apply it.

As I noticed things actually went well as I followed Christ, I’d keep doing this. And, I found myself trusting God more and more as time went by.

Years ago, when I was a single mom and my boys were little, wild, and exhausting, I began to feel sorry for myself.

Most of my friends were married. They had someone to share the load.

They had husbands to spend time with—especially in the evenings. So, I wouldn’t call them then. We didn’t hang out then. And I felt so lonely.

But, I had read Proverbs 11:25- “A generous person will prosper and whoever refreshes others will be refreshed.”

And I knew my weary, sad soul need some refreshing!

So, I prayed about others I knew who might need refreshing, loaded up the boys , and went to the store. We bought things to make small gift bags and then we anonymously delivered them to their front porches or mailboxes.

It worked! I found myself (and the boys) happy and laughing!

And this propelled me to trust God more than I trust myself and to keep obeying His Word …and even when it came to harder things.

Like submitting to my husband—do I think he’s always right? Nope! But I do notice when I employ submission, as God lays out in the Bible, God seems to resolve the issue in a way that works out better than I could’ve fussed my way into.

Do I do all this perfectly? Absolutely not!

For Instance, I know a kind word turns away wrath (Prov 15:1) but my words are definitely not always kind. However, I notice when they are, things do seem to go better, and I have more peace.

Yes, as someone once said, following God is just one big decision (salvation) and then lots of little decisions, day after day, after day. And the thing is, that’s where we find the blessings.

There really are rivers of peace for those who obey the Lord. We truly can trust Him more than we trust ourselves.
