God makes a promise to Abram for his descendants to be as numerous as the stars and to give him the land as an inheritance.( Gen 15:5-6)
And Abram (boldly again) says, “How will I know I will inherit it?” (Gen 15:7)
God then asks Abram to bring him animals and cut them in two. Blood is spilled.Abram falls into a deep sleep and God tells him of the struggles his descendants will face (Gen 15:9-16)
Then, God Himself passes through the bloody path.
In those days, to signify a contract BOTH parties would walk through the animal blood to signify if either did not keep up his end of the bargain than bloodshed should come upon him.
God walked through by Himself.
Do you understand what this means? This is of great importance.
This is foundational to the faith.
By passing through the bloody path by Himself, God is taking on all the responsibility to complete the contract Himself.
Don’t miss the magnitude of this. God is THE Promise Keeper.
Later, another blood sacrifice would be made. God would make another promise through the blood of His precious Son.
He will complete this contract too, and did so alone on a bloody cross.
“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life”. (John 3:16)
That is His promise!
“And I am sure of this, that he who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ.” (Phil 1:6)
He WILL certainly complete the good work He started in you and those you love who love Him! That is also HIS promise.
“Now may the God of peace himself sanctify you completely, and may your whole spirit and soul and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. He who calls you is faithful; he will surely do it. “( 1Thess 5:23-24)
Friend, our Lord IS faithful! HE will do it!
Jesus went to the Cross alone. His blood alone seals our salvation.
May we keep our eyes on Him.
May we trust in Him.
May we hope in Him.
May we give glory to Him alone!
What a Savior!!
