When you first held the Bible in your hands, did your heart somehow know this book is incredibly different than any other?
The Bible is a true account and not a fictitious story and is supernaturally inspired by the Creator of the Universe who used over 40 authors to write the Word over a 1500 year period.
The Bible is one of the most carefully preserved documents in all the world with over 25,000 original manuscripts ( Homers Iliad, the history of the Trojan War (800 BC) is in second place with only 1757 original manuscripts ) (Udy and Jones).
What’s more, the Bible has primary source authors who were alive during the events and archaeological evidences verify the Bible’s accuracy (Ebla Tablets, Jericho, Pool of Bethesda, King David, Red Sea Parting)
The Bible also details supernatural prophetic claims that have come true (For instance there are 61 Old Testament prophecies about Jesus and the probability of just eight of these coming to pass is 1 in one hundred thousand trillion!)
The Bible also has a ring of truth detailing the good, the bad and even the odd.
As we study, we should look for these “rings of truth”.
For instance, as you read Genesis 4,5, and 6, did you notice these people used some of the same names for their children ?
At this point, there are already two Enoch’s mentioned (one is Cain’s son and one is Jared’s son). Also, there are two Lamechs. One is mentioned as boasting of murder (4:23) and one is Noah’s father (he is also the Enoch who walked with God and was taken by God not to die a physical death, grandson).
Do you wonder why this relatively small number of people, from the newly created human race, couldn’t come up with a greater variety of names? 🤔
But this is one more reason we know the Bible is a true account and not a made up story. If a fictitious story, surely the author would have given everyone different names. But in real life, you know your cousin is likely to copy the baby name you had picked out. (Some of you have had this happen in your family and you are still a little salty!)
The Bible is real, relevant and reliable. We can read it with confidence. What’s amazing is we can read it to seek to know the God of the Universe who supernaturally speaks through His Living Word to us, to our very circumstances of life!!
“All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness”, (2 Tim 3:16)
Jesus said, “It is written, “‘Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God.’” (Matt 4:4)
“For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart”. (Heb 4:12)
You can trust it!
