In the beginning God.
In the beginning
How do you move past the extraordinary, incomprehensible, awesome fact that God was the beginning that had no beginning?
He always has been.
He always will be.
He is indescribable, uncontainable and undefinable.
Yet I’m drawn to know Him. I want to know Him more. I want a better glimpse of what can’t be seen!
And one way this AMAZING, Holy, Most High God makes Himself known is through creation.
In the beginning
the heavens and the earth. (Gen 1:1)
Out of nothing.
Try to wrap your sleepy head around that!
The darkest of dark.
And then, God spoke!
“Let there be light”
And with those words, God proceeded to speak into existence all that we see and know.
It was not random. It was not by chance. It was completely controlled, and intricately detailed, and absolutely God.
And in Him, we live, and move, and have our being.
“The God who made the world and everything in it, being Lord of heaven and earth, does not live in temples made by man, nor is he served by human hands, as though he needed anything, since he himself gives to all mankind life and breath and everything. And he made from one man every nation of mankind to live on all the face of the earth, having determined allotted periods and the boundaries of their dwelling place, that they should seek God, and perhaps feel their way toward him and find him. Yet he is actually not far from each one of us, for ‘In him we live and move and have our being’; (Acts 17:24-28)
Without Him, we would not be.
Without Him we cannot be.
We were made by Him and for Him. We were made to seek Him and find Him. And creation cries out to this.
Take a moment. Slow down. Look around you. From the most delicate of flower, to the highest of mountain to the bird soaring in the wind, God is making Himself known.
Do you see Him? The “in the beginning”, Creator God.
If you believe Genesis 1:1, you really have no problem believing the rest of the Bible. The God big enough to have created the heavens and the earth is big enough to do all the rest the Bible says that He did and does.” (Guzik)
Jesus Himself said in John 5:46-47, of the importance of believing what Moses wrote (Genesis) : “For if you believed Moses, you would believe Me; for he wrote about Me. But if you do not believe his writings, how will you believe My words? “
Genesis is foundational to our beliefs. It is especially relevant in our day. Can we trust God? Can we stand on His truths?
Surely, if He created the heavens and the earth and breathed life into dust to give us our breath, surely He is God! And surely, we should worship and follow Him.
Let’s place our feet on solid ground. Let’s remind ourselves of the greatness of our God. Let’s go back to the beginning and turn our hearts to the majesty and amazingness of our Creator God!
Lets’s study Genesis. Read Genesis Chapter 1.
