Most believers I know will tell you they don’t fear physical death because they know they will be with Jesus in the blink of an eye.
We believe God sent His Son to taste death for all of us (Heb 2:9) and through His death He destroyed him (the devil) who had the power of death and released those, who through fear of death , were all their lifetime subject to bondage (2:15).
It’s true that we, who trust Jesus, need no longer fear our own physical death.
But we can sure fear other kinds of deaths like the death of our finances, the death of our comforts, the death of our reputations, the death of our relationships …
We know when we die physically we will be with Jesus, but if those other things, that we look to for our security were to die this side of Heaven, we question if God would be with us then.
The enemy continually tries to convince us that God, who sent His Son to die for us, will somehow be absent and uninvolved in the hard things we might face in this life.
But Jesus is a merciful and faithful High Priest (Heb 2:17) who has suffered and been tempted and is able to give aid to those who are tempted (2:18).
He understands that we are tempted to fear and worry and fret.
He knows we sometimes place our security in temporary things instead of Him.
He knows we are tempted to think God doesn’t love us when we find our circumstances difficult.
But even when we “think wrong” Jesus doesn’t walk away.
Jesus is a sympathetic mediator between us and God. He knows what the enemy is throwing at us. He understands our weaknesses.
He is there talking to the Father.
Paul David Tripp asserts that many of us just want the “Prozac Jesus” who will simply make us feel better.
But truth is, God is after so much more than that!!
He can take hard things and cause us to love Him more, love others better and advance his Kingdom.
He does it all the time because God is at work for so much more than our temporary happiness, He is patiently and powerfully at work for our holiness.
Oh let’s keep our eyes on the One who has His eyes on us!!
Oh, “What is man that you are mindful of him” (Heb 2:6)
What a Savior!

Kim, this was wonderful and blessed me so much. I made a comment with my voice recorder… I am legally blind and have to use a magnifying glass in voice recorder to read and send text… But I’m not sure that I actually sent it to you. Just wanted to let you know what a blessing and how much I agree with all you said and how beautiful you said it. May God bless you and keep you precious one.
