Need some REAL REST?

As Paul continues to instruct us in sound doctrine and how to daily live as Christ-followers, he says we are to pray “that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and reverence.” 1 Tim 2:2)

This is not so we can simply give a peaceful appearance on the outside, but that deep down, inside, we will truly experience real rest— peace and quiet of our heart, mind and soul.

Prayer is powerful, as we intercede and give thanks, as we pray for all men, we will find God settles us.

I find it particularly peace-giving to pray God’s Words back to Him.

Have you tried it?

I find as I recount His promises and truth, He settles me through and through. Here’s an example—

For God you know the plans You have for me, plans to prosper me and not to harm me , plans to give me hope and a future. (Jer 29:11)

Lord, help me be still, and know that You are God. You will be exalted among the nations, You will be exalted in the earth! (Psalm 46:10)

When I am afraid, I put my trust in you.(Psalm 56:3)

I lift up my eyes to the hills. I remember, my help comes from the LORD, who made heaven and earth.(Psalm 121:1-2)

I will have no fear of bad news; as You help my heart be steadfast, trusting in You. (Psalm 112:7)

I can trust in You with all my heart. Oh Lord, help me lean not on my own understanding but in all my ways acknowledge You, and You will make straight my paths. (Prov 3:5-6)

You tell me, no temptation has overtaken me that is not common to man. God, You are faithful, and You will not let me be tempted beyond my ability, but with the temptation You will also provide the way of escape, that I may be able to endure it. (1 Cor 10:13)

What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us? (Rom 8:31)

Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for You are with me; Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me. (Psalm 23:4)

So I can confidently say, “The Lord is my helper; I will not fear; what can man do to me?” (Heb 13:6)

Oh Lord, You tell me: “Fear not, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by name, you are mine. When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and through the rivers, they shall not overwhelm you; when you walk through fire you shall not be burned, and the flame shall not consume you. For I am the LORD your God, the Holy One of Israel, your Savior. (Isa 43:1-3)

Oh Christian, God has us.

He truly does.

He has all that concerns us….Including whatever came to your mind just now.

Let’s remember, peace and quiet and deep-down, SOUL REST is linked to prayer.

Let’s not fail to pray!

As my sweet husband says…”we’d be fools not to pray”.

Let’s study the Word so we know just Who we are praying to… but then, let’s pray to Him, let’s pray His truth, and we will find deep-down soul REST!
