Keep on, there’s a HARVEST!

In an attempt to flee temptation, I decided to drop off the extra box of yummy doughnuts from this weekend’s company to my skinny, sugar-loving mom.

As I was leaving, she asked me to wait so she could read to me what she had just learned from her book on Revelation.

Her almost eighty-year-old fingers thumbed through the pages and she began to read.

And I remembered.

I remembered laying in my twin bed, my little brother in the other bed, watching those same fingers turn through the pages of scripture as she sat on the floor between us.

Every night she’d read. Some nights, Dad would come in sweaty from coaching his high school baseball team and lean against the wall in our little bedroom, eating the plate of food she’d saved him, and listening as mom read.

I’m so thankful she read to us. I’m so thankful she took the time to seek God through His Word and make it a priority; and I’m so thankful that she has not stopped all these years later.

My mom does not like accolades or attention and is probably aggravated if she is reading this—but my mom, and all of you who spend time in the Word pointing your children and others to truth are worthy of praise!

Oh, please be encouraged!
Please don’t stop!

You may be repeating one small verse to busy toddlers, or struggling for ways to get your teenager to “hear”, or walking through a Bible study with a new believer this summer…but whatever you do to take in the Word of God for yourself and others will absolutely reap a harvest.

That harvest may not be immediate. Honestly, it’s most often not. It certainly wasn’t for my mom with me.

But those words of truth she read were not wasted. God brought them back to my mind at just the right time. I found strength and hope there years later when I desperately needed it.

What’s more, I began to want to read the Word more and more for myself.

So friend, keep seeking the Lord through His Word…. It’s a lifelong pursuit that yields blessing both to yourself and to those whose lives God has for you to touch.
