In His presence is fullness of joy. (Psalm 16:11)
I’m not sure I’ve so closely observed anyone who exudes the truth of this more than my son, Ben.
God is Ben’s go to. Even as a little boy, he seemed to have God on his mind so often. He’d come to me with spiritual thoughts that seemed way too deep for his age.
I’ve thought a lot about Ben and all this lately —perhaps because he will get married Saturday.
My momma heart is so incredibly thankful for how Ben goes to God and finds his joy there. I know it will continue to bode him well as he leads his family and when hard days come.
God fills Ben up. He runs to God when he is down, and he praises him when he is up.
But all of this didn’t just happen for Ben, it has been nurtured and grown from the overflow of his day in and day out, year after long year, diligent seeking of the Lord through His Word.
Ben gets up early. He daily drinks of the Living Water that comes from tuning his heart to the Lord. And Ben is satisfied.
Oh sometimes, like all of us, circumstances can confuse, hurt and overwhelm him, but I’ve watched Ben take his thoughts captive and compare them to the hope-giving truth of the Word.
I watched Ben do that as he struggled with the fact that his dad, my first husband took his life. I watched Ben do that as he fought chronic health issues and heart surgeries and all the other normal disappointments that just come from living in this hard world.
In God, despite all that was happening around him, Ben found fullness of joy.
In God’s presence, through His Word and prayer, Ben is refreshed again and again.
He is reminded of who he is in Christ Jesus so the things of this world lose their power to discourage him.
And because God is truly Ben’s fullness of joy, my momma heart is confident that Ben will be an amazing husband to his sweet Katie and will lead his family so very well.
And this is a blessing, a joy, I will count and celebrate. What a Savior! What a friend! What joy there is for those who call on the Lord!
Oh friends, let’s keep calling on Him and encouraging others to do the same.
We covet your prayers Saturday for a sweet wedding day celebrating and honoring what God has done! 🙌🏻❤️
