I ended up falling asleep for a few minutes on that float. It was glorious.
I was tethered with a short rope to our dock and strapped in my life jacket, so I knew I could rest.
Following God, through His Word, is another way I know I can rest.
But the careless and those filled with evil, often run hard toward destruction—their own and others.
Matt 8:28-34 tells of Jesus casting demons into swine who run off a cliff to their death.
John 10:10 warns us, the goal of our enemy, and the demonic minions he commands, is to rob, kill and destroy; but Jesus has come to give us life and life abundantly.
There is clearly a way that leads to misery and death, and a way that leads to life abundantly. The choice is daily.
The Bible tells us, we should choose each day whom we will serve. (Joshua 24:15)
It’s like strapping on a life jacket.
As we endeavor to make good choices, we must remember there is a way that seems right to a man but in the end is the way of death (Prov 14:12)
So, as we make decisions for ourselves and our families, we must test everything and hold on to the good and abstain from every form of evil (1 Thess 5:21-22)
In all our ways, we should acknowledge God and ask Him to make our paths straight. (Prov 3:5-6)
And as we do this, as we tether ourselves to Him and His way, through obeying His Word, we can rest.
We can rest because, when we live this way, we are trusting Him more than we trust us.
And that kind of daily obedience yields peace, true peace, that withstands the storms, doesn’t it?
