I love how the Bible sugarcoats everything and only tells the simple, pretty stories.
Except it doesn’t.
The Bible is real. God shows us the proclivity of humans to see Him do amazing things and then turn right around and blow it.
After Lot and his two daughters had just been supernaturally rescued from Sodom and Gomorrah, you would think they would fear the Lord and follow Him.
But no, God tells us the real, rest of the ugly story in Genesis 19:30-38.
Lot’s two daughters get their dad drunk and sleep with him. They each become pregnant and their offspring will become some of Israel’s greatest enemies.
And, what should we do with THAT?
- Realize, again, that the Bible is real and not some fairytale book.
- Recognize the nature of our flesh to fall into sin even after we’ve encountered God in miraculous ways.
- Be on guard against this.
Furthermore, let’s don’t discount the power of evil culture on our behavior.
Remember, Lot had CHOSEN to have his family living in Sodom and Gomorrah.
What’s more, we know Lot was likely fitting right in with the evil city as Genesis 19:1 tells us, as the angels sent to rescue them arrive, Lot was sitting at Sodom’s gate where city leaders were often found.
Lot had likely compromised what he knew to be right in order to fit in with the evil culture.
We see this in our world. Some leaders may start with good motives to influence society toward Christian principles, but then they fall away because they become drunk on the praise of others and the power afforded them when they give in to cultural norms.
We only have to turn on the news to find even “beloved” corporations, like Disney, promoting evil things to our children.
We, ourselves, are sometimes tempted to give in and go along with our culture and call bad things good and good things bad.
It’s exhaustingly hard to feel like you’re always swimming against the cultural current.
It’s increasingly hard to speak truth in a world that hates the ways of God.
And this, is one more reason, it is so vitally important to continue to meet with other believers as God tells us in Hebrews 10:25.
There is strength to stand to be found in community with others who love God and seek to follow Him.
To neglect this is foolish and dangerous.
If you are not in church, and do not have your family in church, you are ripe for a great fall. (And sitting at home and watching a video is NOT fellowshipping with other believers.)
Furthermore, let’s don’t assume we are immune from being taken down by a desire to be lifted up by this world.
Even ministry can be seductive. Lets never assume ourselves immune. Let’s ask others to hold us accountable to the truth. Let’s give them permission to call us out if they see us shying away from the truth in order to be popular in our culture. (I’m asking you guys to hold me accountable).
Lets seek out friends, who love God and love us, and who will pray for us to hold tight to the Word of God.
Let’s run this race with our eye on the prize with hearts seeking the glory of the only One who can handle it.

And stand for what’s right according to Gods infallible word. Begin in me Lord I pray. 🙏🙏🙏
