Need a little peace? Focus on this!

Has a verse ever just “jumped out” at you? Perhaps a portion, or all of it, seemed “new” in some way?

Luke 12:29-31 says, “And do not seek what you should eat or what you should drink, nor have an anxious mind. For all these things the nations of the world seek after, and your Father knows that you need these things. But seek the kingdom of God, and all these things shall be added to you.”

As I read this verse, somehow, just when I needed to see them, the words, “NOR HAVE AN ANXIOUS MIND” flashed like a neon sign.

With all that is going on in our world, I’ve been teetering on “having an anxious mind”.

Anyone else? Just raise your hand. Yes, I see you there with the fluffy blanket, and the box of chocolate, there on the couch trying to forget all that is going on around us.

Why not grab your Bible and think about this instead?

An anxious mind is never, ever, helpful but lets notice the tie between not having an anxious mind and focusing on seeking the Kingdom of God instead.

Focusing on the Kingdom of God is peace-giving…here’s a few ways—

  1. Focusing on the Kingdom of God reminds me God is in control. My job is to follow Him. His job is everything else. (Prov 3:5-6)
  2. Focusing on the Kingdom of God reminds me, we live in a fallen world and we will have trouble here, but that trouble is always, ever, only temporary for God’s children. (John 16:33, Rev 21:4).
  3. Focusing on the Kingdom of God reminds us to daily cast our cares on our King who cares for us. (I Peter 5:7). He is still at work. He is still a miracle maker; and He still cares about the details of our lives. We can’t do all things; but He can. (Psalm 77:14, Luke 12:7, Luke 1:37)
  4. Focusing on the Kingdom of God reminds us that He will give us what we need when we need it. He will give us the peace and strength to walk through whatever we might be worried about walking through. He won’t leave us. He will be right there with us. He will lift our heads and set our feet on the Rock. He will help us know the way we should take. (Luke 12:22-28, Deut 31:6, Psalm 3:3, Psalm 40:2)

The fact is, when we focus on the Kingdom of God and ALL that means, when we are seeking His will and His glory through whatever we are facing, we simply cannot have an anxious mind!!

“Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”
Phil 4:6-7

I encourage you to read the verses referenced above because those Holy Spirit inspired words of truth are a billion times better than mine. They are truth to hold on to and hope to keep going!!
