Slow down, friend. Take note of this. This is some help-you stuff.
The Apostle Paul doesn’t just say take a passing glance at good things, he says MEDITATE on them.
“Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy; meditate on these things”. (Phil 4:8-9)
Here’s the thing-much of our battle for peace is a battle fought in our minds!
Honestly, a great deal of the struggles we face as Christians start in our own minds, and could end there, if we would take these thoughts captive and extinguish them. (2 Cor 10:5)
Proverbs tells us, “As a man thinks so he is” (Prov 23:7).
So again, in this battle, we have to pay attention to our thinking and what we expose ourselves to.
Paul gives us a great test for this, he says think about things that are:
True
Noble
Just
Pure
Lovely
Of Good Report
Virtuous
Praiseworthy
We have to start by thinking about things that are TRUE!
Remember, the evil one is called the “father of all lies” and he lies to us all day long.
For if he can get us to BELIEVE a lie, then we can LIVE in the lie
where our joy is robbed,
our hope killed, and
our peace destroyed.
One way I meditate on true things is by first, daily reading the Word, but also by listening to sermons from solid pastors (and not just on Sundays).
Like you, I’m busy; but technology allows us to access all kinds of great messages just about anywhere, or anytime, and listen to them as we do other things.
I listen in my car, or pop in my airpods and listen while doing dishes or folding laundry. My mom listens while she is on the treadmill and often sends me really good ones like the powerful one below.
This one is entitled, “Live No Lies” by John Mark Comer (also author of the same titled book). I’d highly encourage you to listen to this one because it is so timely with today’s passage from Paul https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/the-summit-church/id616256661?i=1000538858860
By the way, all three of my twenty-something kids listened to the message above and found it to be valuable insight into fighting the lies of the evil one.
The thing is, we are all in a battle. But we do not fight alone. Let’s equip ourselves to walk in truth, and let’s remember, that begins by first meditating on truth!
And here is another wonderful way to access great teaching (again, always test everything you hear by God’s Holy Word) https://www.rightnowmedia.org/
