For years, I’ve felt like I’ve had this down-“Do not love the world or things in the world.” (1 John 2:15)
I’m not into the culture or cling to its’ immorality. I love my church. I read my Bible. I don’t watch bad movies.
You know, I feel like I don’t love the world and the things in it.
But I don’t always keep it all in perspective. I still want this old world to go the way I think it should. I want those I love to be happy, and healthy, and near me.
I’m good to rejoice with those who are rejoicing; but the mourning is getting harder as I get older.
With every hospital visit, how very much I seem to see what John is telling us in 1 John 2:17–“this world is passing away”. It sure is!
John goes on to say “and the lust of it”. And the older I get, the more I see the heartache and pain—divorce, sickness, miscarriage, political squabbling—the less the things of this world appeal to me.
And, if we stop right there, we might get really down. 😞 We might wonder why the Lord doesn’t just save us and take us home!
But if He did, would we know how sweet it is to walk with Him? Would we?
And you know that reminds me of something I wrote awhile back-
Over and over in Scripture…
but also over and over in my life
and the lives of others I observe….
Jesus goes out of His way to take us through circumstances, to get through thick heads, like mine,
that we
need Him.
We were made for Him, to love Him.
Not to love this world.
We were made for
JOYFUL DEPENDENCE
on the ROCK who is CHRIST the Lord.
Yes, we need Him for salvation and eternity;
but we also NEED HIM
for the struggles of this very day,
this side of Heaven.
We need His counsel.
We need His wisdom.
We need His POWER
We need His ABIDING presence.
We need to ENJOY Him.
We weren’t made to walk alone.
We were made to run to Him.
Every day.
EVERY
SINGLE
DAY
Don’t try to tackle all that is coming at you.
Stop.
Sit at His feet.
Watch Him settle you,
calm you, direct your steps,
multiply your time, change your perspective
and give you peace.
REAL PEACE.
There is NOTHING you will face in this day
that is too hard for Him.
Nope.
Nothing.
RUN TO HIM
then run to Him
again tomorrow.
He will carry you.
He has you
He loves you.
FOREVER
And you’ll grow to love Him, not just for what He has done, but for Who He is!
And one day, every tear will be wiped away, and those who know and love Him will truly REJOICE to see Him face-to-face!
Oh how I love Him!
