A Battle in the heavens

Daniel is praying fervently as the Lord, through Gabriel, explains the things which are to come— the destruction of Jerusalem, the coming of the Messiah, the disobedience of His people, the abomination of desolation, the AntiChrist.(Dan 9)

In chapter ten, Daniel, now about 84 years old, has been mourning and praying.

As he stands by the Tigris River, he sees, “a certain man clothed in linen, whose waist was girded with gold of Uphaz! His body was like beryl, his face like the appearance of lightning, his eyes like torches of fire, his arms and feet like burnished bronze in color, and the sound of his words like the voice of a multitude” (Dan 10:4-6)

Those with Daniel did not see the vision but were terrified and fled.

Daniel falls flat on his face, and passes out into a deep sleep when a supernatural hand touches him and says, “ Do not fear, Daniel, for from the first day that you set your heart to understand, and to humble yourself before your God, your words were heard; and I have come because of your words.“ (Dan 10:10-12)

God responded to the heart of Daniel and his fervent prayers to understand

Please read that again. Let’s don’t miss that. Let’s emulate that in our lives. Let’s remind each other that our God hears our prayers, He responds to our hearts to know Him, and He is involved in our very lives.

Let’s also take note that there is a spiritual warfare going on in the heavens.

Notice what the heavenly being said next,
“your words were heard; and I have come because of your words. But the prince of the kingdom of Persia withstood me twenty-one days; and behold, Michael, one of the chief princes, came to help me, for I had been left alone there with the kings of Persia.” (Dan 10:13)

We have to remember our battle is not against flesh and blood.

God tells us through Paul, “For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places”. (Eph 6:12)

As we earnestly pray, and look at our world, we have to remember there is a bigger battle going on that our human eyes cannot see.

Our human solutions are no match for the battle being waged over the hearts and souls of men.

As we face troubles and trials, we must pray to the One who sends His Angel armies to fight on our behalf.

Our job is to keep our eyes on Him. We have to remember there is more going on than we can see.

There is an enemy who has taken many captive to his lies. Those who are in bondage are not our enemy (though it certainly feels like it sometimes). 😳

But as we pray for those who hurt us, our Father hears our prayers. He fights our battles. He sets the captives free.

And if we think about it, nothing could be better than if those who feel like our enemies, who disagree with us, who want to hurt us, who come against the ways of God, would come to know the Lord and follow Him.

That’s where real change would occur.

Oh friend, let’s do the work of prayer! Let’s recognize that there is a spiritual battle going on all around us. Let’s keep our eyes on our King and follow Him in all our ways. He hears our prayers… and THAT is no small thing!
