I’m not sure if anything comes as close to rattling my faith than when godly people walk away from Jesus and do ungodly things, and this was exactly what was happening in the church in Corinth.
We see it today as some continue to choose the praise of men and compromise with the world over the clinging to truth and living for the praise of God. Just turn on the news. Just think about some you know.
Paul reminds those in Corinth, and he reminds us today, that our faith can never rest in the wisdom of men but only in the power of God.
“I decided to know nothing among you except Jesus Christ and him crucified” (1Cor 2:2)…”so that your faith might not rest in the wisdom of men but in the power of God”. (end of verse 5).
Our eyes and our hearts can only ever count on one object of perfection-that is Jesus.
Every person on the planet is capable of failing—that means you,and that means me, and even those in our churches that we’ve come to admire.
We can’t ever put our faith in flesh…
But we can learn to better listen to the Holy Spirit inside of each of us as believers.
Paul was pleading with those Corinthian believers to keep their eyes on Jesus in the midst of the immorality around them, heed the voice of the Holy Spirit inside them, and remember they have the mind of Christ to instruct them.
Open your Bible and read 1 Corinthians 2:9-15. Those precious, holy words were written for their hearts and for our hearts for this day.
Those God-inspired words are better than any human pen will ever compose, tweet or post.
And just when you need them, the Holy Spirit will remind you what God says in His Word.
The time you spend in God’s Word will always be time well spent. If you can’t find time to open the Word you need to adjust your priorities and your schedule.
Why? Because you can count on this: This world can be hard. Truth will be twisted. The world, and sometimes those in the church, will run 100 mph the wrong way.
But we CAN know the way to take. …Because we have available to us the mind of Christ in God’s Word (v16). That Word will be folly to the world (v14) and twisted even by some in ministry.
Yet, the spiritual person judges all things by the Word and listens intently (above all the noise) for the Holy Spirit’s guidance so we might interpret spiritual truths (v 13) and walk out our faith well— loving Jesus and loving others around us.
“No eye has seen, nor ear heard, nor the heart of man imagined, what God has prepared for those who love him.” (I Cor 2:9)
Hang on! Keep listening! Keep following! Keep loving Him! What a Savior!
