How do you know what’s true in these days where false teachers abound and information comes at us from so many directions?
Nothing any human says or writes will ever come close to the absolute truth, comfort, direction and hope the Lord gives us through His Word.
And as false teachers increase, as God tells us they will (Matt 24:11), as they deliberately twist the Word for their own gain, to deceive many, we need, more than ever, to know truth and test everything by it.
Yet, so many neglect it—and so many are biblically illiterate. Including many, many Christians.
And these days, these possible End of Days, days are certainly not the time to not be able to discern what is right and true.
So many have a regard for the Bible—it’s hope and truth and many, even non-Christians, have heard about prophecies that have been fulfilled. But so many never spend time reading truth and applying it to their lives.
And the enemy of your soul is happy about that. The one set on our destruction (John 10:10) and the destruction of those we love is lying to us all day long (John 8:44).
Can you quickly recognize those fiery darts (Eph 6:16), those lies and extinguish them with the truth of the Word?
Do you know God well enough to trust Him more than you trust you when it comes to the way you should take and lead your family when wrong is called right and right is called wrong?
Do you know what God calls wrong and why?
Have you spent enough time in God’s Word to trust that His way is the better way and that His Word is what protects you and directs you to His best for you?
Have you come to love and trust Him so that you can hold tight to Him and not deny His Name when you are called every kind of name, and maybe worse?
Are you confident that this life is just a breath (Ps 39:5) , not your home and that you are a citizen of an eternal Kingdom (Phil 3:20)?
If you want hope, if you want to better understand the world around us, what has happened, and what will happen, you’ll find nothing better than God’s Word.
But reading the Bible pales in comparison to the time so many of spend running to other things in our search for hope and direction!
And while the sermon on Sunday is a gift that should be appreciated and worthy of our time, Christians never outgrow our need for DAILY bread through personal time spent studying God’s Living Word.
There is TRUTH you can stand on there—no matter how hard this life may get!
As we read the Word, the Holy Spirit will then use that Word to remind us of truth at just the right moment.
“But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he will teach you all things and bring to your remembrance all that I have said to you.” John 14:26
And THIS is how we refute the lies of the false teachers and escape the snares set for us and our families by the enemy of our souls and find peace.
Right after Jesus tells us about the Holy Spirit reminding us of truth He tells us —“Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.” (John 14:27)
We can have this peace!! We need this peace for these crazy days!
But how do you go from simply regarding the Word as a good thing to actually reading it and walking in the strength it brings?
Pray for some “want to”. Ask God to help you crave His Word. Get in a good Bible study and ask a friend to hold you accountable.
It may take some discipline at first but that discipline will turn into devotion, strength and trust.
Not every day will be an “aha, hallelujah” moment, but there will be those days where the Word jumps off the page and you know the King of Glory has spoken to you through His Word!
You’ll experience His comfort, His direction and His hope!
And friend, that’s peace that nothing in this world can ever bring. ❤️
And if you are reading these words, perhaps it’s no accident. Perhaps God is inviting you to more of HIM through His Word of which no human words can ever compare.
