Faith over Feelings

We can’t let our feelings dictate our obedience.

So many seem to want to only follow the Lord as long as their feelings don’t get in the way.

They place incredible emphasis on what feels right to them and often end up justifying what God calls sin.

But the faithful life isn’t one driven by feelings. It’s quite literally, very often, the opposite.

Jesus told us to daily deny ourselves and take up our crosses and follow Him (Matt 16:24).

This denying of ourselves is often less about denying ourselves physically (not many of us are called to go hungry or risk our lives these days) but we are called to set aside our emotions in order to call wrong things wrong and walk in obedience to God’s better way for the Kingdom and for His glory.

The faithful life is not –

  1. Read the Bible
  2. (If you) FEEL it
  3. Follow it

It’s instead—

  1. Read the Bible
  2. Follow it (even if you don’t feel it)

And the funny thing is , it’s in the doing, in the obedience, that we actually find ourselves FEELING things like greater trust in God and unexplainable peace.

Oh friend, there is a way that seems right to a man but it’s end is the way of death (Prov 14:12).

“The mind governed by the flesh is death, but the mind governed by the Spirit is life and peace.” (Rom 8:6)

“Trust in the LORD with all your heart,
and do not lean on your own understanding.
In all your ways acknowledge him,
and he will make straight your paths.
Be not wise in your own eyes;
fear the LORD, and turn away from evil.
It will be healing to your flesh
and refreshment to your bones.”
(Prov 3:5-8)

    1. I miss Vicki so much. Her sweet sister let me know. What an encouragement and prayer warrior she has been to me. I’m so thankful there is no more pain for her.
