Are you about ready to give up?

His fame spread like wildfire. The Teacher. The Healer. The Miracle Maker.

The crowds pressed in.

Jesus gets in Simon’s boat, they back out from land, and the Savior continues teaching the crowd from the water.

Simon is tired. He had fished all night and came up empty. I wonder if he dozed off during the Master’s sermon. After all, Simon Peter was one of the disciples who is forever noted for falling asleep in the Garden of Gethsemane.

At the very least, Simon Peter had to be exhausted from his all-night fishing trip when Jesus asked him to row out in deep waters and let his nets down once more.

I wonder what he thought.

But Simon Peter overcame whatever emotion he was feeling and found the strength to obey despite any doubts.

Simon Peter remarked, “But at your word I will let down the nets.” (Luke 5:5)

But at your word….I will.

At YOUR Word…I will.

At God’s Word…will you?

Make no mistake, there will be times in all our lives when God will ask us to do things that make no sense to us.

We may be tired when He asks us. We may feel like we’ve been doing it already with no results, and we may be ready to give up when God presses on our hearts to keep on.

But know this, when God tells us to do something or keep on doing something—even if we are tired—when we obey God, even then, especially THEN, miracles happen!

Are you just about ready to give up on something or someone?

Have you been trying for so long with little or no results?

Is your marriage awful? Is that rebellious teen wearing you out? Do you dread seeing that annoying family member this Christmas season? Is that ministry coming up empty?

Is God asking you to keep on trying? Is He asking you to put out in even deeper waters?

Oh friend, keep on. Put out in deep waters. Let down your nets again. And watch God be your strength.

Hold on and believe He is still the Miracle Maker.

And don’t miss what happens just a few verses down in Luke 5. Jesus goes on to heal a leper and then He, the Son of God, the King of Kings Himself, withdraws to a desolate place and PRAYS (Luke 5:16).

Jesus DELIBERATELY pulled away from all the work, all that He set out to accomplish and went to the Father —the source of His strength in PRAYER.

Don’t miss that!

As you keep on… run to the Lord!

You can’t do this on your own. You were never meant to.

Get away and pray! Watch God strengthen you! Watch God bring blessing!
