Don’t fall for this.

They were his closest friends. They had walked miles of dusty roads together. They had seen Him delight over the little children, raise the dead, heal the sick, walk on water, feed the thousands and watched Him weep. They had sat with Him as He taught with authority.

They had been chosen among the world to be His disciples.

Supernatural events were, by His control, quickly falling into place as light would collide with darkness as never before.

Jesus sat with the twelve as the Last Supper is prepared and explained that one of them would soon betray Him.

“They began to be sorrowful and say to Him one after another, “Is it I?” (Mark 14:19).

Don’t miss the significance of the disciples’ question!

Those who intimately knew the Savior, those who had heard His teachings, those who had walked with Him for so long, those who had seen His miracles with their very eyes, wondered if they might be the one to betray Him.

Sobering.

If the ones whom He had chosen, who followed Him so well, who were closest to Him knew their flesh could betray Him…so should we.

So should we!

We, who are still flesh, need to face the sobering reality of our propensity to sin.

And we need to be on guard.

We need to cry out to Jesus every moment. We need to daily be filled with His Word and run to Him continually in prayer. We need to ask Him to examine our lives and show us sin.

No matter how long we’ve called Jesus “Lord”, we must never get too big for our spiritual britches!

If the disciples could fail Him, so can we.

So can I.
So can you.

That’s just one more reason those who try to rely on a Sunday-only-religion, rather than a minute by minute, real relationship with Jesus, set themselves up to be entangled by sins awful snares.

But those who daily call on the Lord, who seek Him in all their ways, who get back up and run to Him even after they’ve failed, find real freedom and sweet mercy for each day.

And at this very moment, the Savior, who knows how much we need Him, sits at the right hand of the Father interceding for His children!

Hallelujah, what a Savior! Hallelujah, what a true friend we have in Jesus!!

How we all (always) need Him!
