Don’t forget, PEACE comes through surrender (again and again)

Surrender is a hard thing.

Hebrews’ final chapter exhorts believers to “obey those who rule over you, be submissive, for they watch out for your souls, as those who must give account.” (13:17)

In my flesh, I don’t want anyone to rule over me. I don’t want to be submissive to my husband or anyone else really.

But the truth is, I am not my own if I am a Christian.

I don’t belong to myself but to God. I’ve been bought with the highest of prices and I am to glorify God (1 Cor 6:20) and not become a slave again to the world (1 Cor 7:23).

I am no longer to live to myself, or to what the world tells me is right or wrong, but to the glory of the One who paid my debt and who will make me complete in every good work to do His will. (Heb 13:21)

This “surrender all, not for me, but for Him” living is incredibly counter-flesh and certainly counter-cultural.

It requires that we DAILY die to self (Luke 9:23) because the world and our flesh is constantly tempting us to be self-ruled instead of God-ruled.

I feel it every second.
Don’t you?

But those who belong to the King will never experience freedom by going back to trying to control their own kingdoms and create their own peace… but only in moment by moment surrender to the Lord and His purposes. Let’s remember this.

As I lay down my life to God’s purposes, as I daily let go of “my” time, money, reputation, comfort, and even my dreams and desires, and remember it is ALL His, it is there that peace LIKE A RIVER floods my soul in every circumstance and hard thing this life brings.

And it is there, that we, who have been bought with the highest price, can bring glory to the One who paid it all and be well-pleasing in His sight! (Heb 13:21)

Hebrews ends with the words, “Grace be with you all. Amen” (Heb 13:25)

Oh, for the grace to love and serve Him more! Oh, for the grace to surrender to Him again in this day!
