Because they know you…

In the book of Luke, Luke sets out to tell the true story of Jesus to his friend Theophilus and, by God’s sovereign will, to all of us.

The gospels of Matthew and Mark had already been written when Luke picked up his pen to carefully detail the story of the Lord, but Luke knew we are each to tell the story of Jesus in the best way we possibly can.

For some that may be writing, for some singing, others will scoop up children and grandchildren in their laps today. There will be those who sit with moms at crisis pregnancy centers sharing their own stories of hope in Jesus. Others will pray for the words for that fellow student or coworker. Some will raise money for far away missions. Others will leave to serve in far away places.

But ALL of us are called to share the story of Jesus —what He did in the world, and what he has done, and is doing, in our own lives.

To tell these stories, we draw from the well of our time spent with Him. That’s how He overflows from our lives into the lives of others. That’s how the gospel has spread like wildfire since Jesus stepped into our world!

The story of Jesus is still to be told. Oh friend, look around at our dark world. Don’t you know they need to know the hope we have in Jesus? That hope is meant to roll off our tongues…your tongue, my tongue—our tongues were made to tell!

Remember, Luke knew Matthew and Mark had already written their books. But Luke knew he was called to tell the story too. He told it in a way the others did not.

And friend, the story of Jesus in your life is also a story meant to be told in the way only you can tell it.

When Luke writes his second book (the book of Acts), he will detail the words of Peter and John who said, “for we cannot but speak of what we have seen and heard.” (Acts 4:20)

Surely, we who have met the Savior, cannot help but speak of the things we have seen and heard!!

Someone, somewhere needs to see the Savior in you so they may be certain that He has a salvation story for them to tell as well!

“In as much as many have undertaken to compile a narrative of the things that have been accomplished among us, just as those who from the beginning were eyewitnesses and ministers of the word have delivered them to us, it seemed good to me also, having followed all things closely for some time past, to write an orderly account for you, most excellent Theophilus, that you may have certainty concerning the things you have been taught” (Luke 1:1-4)

Oh Lord, open our eyes to those around us who need to hear the stories of You at work in our lives. Help us spend time with You so that You may overflow into the lives of others. Help us be prepared to give an answer for the hope we have with gentleness and respect (1 Pet 3:15).

May those who don’t know You, come to know You because they know us.
