Are you seeing this alarming trend?

I know we just celebrated moms but here is something I absolute cannot celebrate. It is an alarming trend that is causing us all to suffer.

I’m seeing moms (and dads) elevating their children’s happiness over their children’s holiness.

This often starts with child-centered parenting when they are infants, and continues with parents being okay with, and even encouraging, sinful lifestyles in their adult children if it “makes them happy”.

Many parents have elevated their children’s happiness over their righteousness and can’t see that their kid’s temporary emotion doesn’t matter at all if it costs them eternally.

When did we completely give up on the truth that holiness matters more than temporary happiness to the eternal detriment of those we say we love?

Perhaps this alarming trend, that is hurting all of society, is happening because many parents don’t truly believe what God says in His Word about things like gender, sexuality, and the commitment of marriage.

No, your child will not be happier if they change their gender, love someone of the same sex, or leave their spouse without biblical grounds.

Oh, they may feel happy for a while, but anytime our kids, just like us, go against what God says in His Word, they are heaping misery-making trouble on themselves.

Parents, if you love your kids, and you truly want the best for them, you need to know that best will only come from a life surrendered to Christ and not one tossed to and fro by temporary feelings.

Let’s stop catering to emotion and start teaching our kids, and encouraging our adult children, that they truly can trust God’s ways over their ways because that is where the joy is!

Let’s soberly remember, “There is a way that seems right to a man but its end is the way of death” (Prov 14:12).

Let’s believe God on this. Let’s trust Him more than we trust us in how we live, in our parenting, and in our counsel to others.
