Right now, so many I love are facing what seems like a pile on of hard things.
They love Jesus.
They seek to follow Him.
They are hurting.
Really hurting over hard things.
But again, and again, I’ve heard each of them talk of their hope. One by one they have each arrived at almost the exact same phrase— “but God”.
They have faith “but God” will carry them. He will dry their tears. He will show them what to do. He will be their peace that makes no earthly sense.
They’ve read His promises and they are walking forward in faith because they believe He really will do all He says He will do.
They also talk of finding God’s presence real, and enough, in their tear-filled moments of pain, real pain, before any circumstance is fixed.
But this peace is elusive for those who look only to this world for their help; nor is it found by those who dabble in a Sunday-only religion.
No, those who are not knocked down by the storms of this life, daily press on to refute the lies of the evil one and remember the promises of God.
They have so much more than a religion that’s never changed their lives, their trust in God is personal and it’s daily.
They trust Him more than they trust themselves because they’ve daily sought Him, not just on Sundays, or hard days, but every day.
They hunger for His Word and their hearts seek to know and follow His ways. They obey Him.
And now that they are facing hard days, gut-wrenchingly so, they have peace. Real peace.
I’m telling you I see it. It’s real.
They have done the work to know God—the early morning quiet times, the Bible studies, the small groups, the prayer groups, the Sunday services…the day in and day out of putting on Christ and shaking off this world is bringing rivers of peace right now for them in their hard days.
And as I watch them, as I see their faith, my faith grows too.
As they trust God, I remember I can keep trusting Him too.
And that’s one more reason, we need to seek the Lord together, let’s keep encouraging one another, let’s keep meeting together (Heb 10:25) to press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus. (Phil 3:14).
And if someone else’s faith in their hard days is encouraging you, tell them. Let them know you are so thankful that God is their rock and that He is already using their trial for His glory. 💕
