“None of us live on an island.” (Well, some of you may actually live on an island . But you know what I mean.)
Our lives impact each other.
And I am so thankful for the people, over the years, whose deep love for Jesus has so greatly impacted my life.
They have caused me to love and trust and enjoy Jesus more!
As I think about each one of them, I realize it was not accidental.
They all have an intentional faith.
They seem to look at the world and others quite differently than most.
They size up situations with spiritual eyes.
They deliberately look outside themselves, their cares, and their problems. It is much more than just seeking to do right and not do wrong; those who have helped me draw closest to the Lord very much intended to do so.
These people are keenly aware that the things they do, the words they say, the way they spend their time (and the way they don’t) has great potential to point others toward Jesus or away from Him.
And they’ve made the decision to live their lives to make Him known!
They aren’t stuck in neutral or defeated in distraction , but are continually pressing forward to claim the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus (Phil 3:14).
They make the most of every opportunity. They diligently try to “walk in wisdom toward outsiders, making the best use of time.” (Col 4:5).
What’s more, I have seldom seen those who impact others for the Kingdom consuming this “breath of a life” for their own pleasure alone. Oh, they take time to rest, but their hearts continually beat with a higher purpose to make Jesus known to others.
But these sweet servants are also filled with joy! Real joy!
Each one of them overflows with such a contagious love for Jesus ,and others, that people are drawn to the Lord!
While they are intentional and joyful, I also notice they are careful and prayerful.
They are careful with their words. They are prayerful in their responses to other people (Col 4:6) and daily spend time in the Word seeking to be prepared to give an answer for the hope they have. (1 Pet 3:15).
No, they don’t live each day for themselves but are prepared, to not only be inconvenienced in their service to the Kingdom, but are willing to literally suffer for doing good (1 Pet 3:17).
They know this life is not all there is!
They believe in Heaven, and they know there is a Hell. They also know Jesus is the Way….THE only Way, the truth and the life and that no one comes to the Father except through Him (John 14:6).
AND because they love people who don’t know Jesus, because they want to bring glory to the King, they live to make Jesus known!
God, help us all to live like that!
Glory to God! All glory to Him! One day every knee will bow! May our lips praise the King and make Him known!
