Have you felt alone? Have you wished God’s will had been different?

Have you ever felt so very alone?

Jesus knew what it felt to be alone. No one cheering Him on. No one walking with Him. No one holding His hand or even his closet friends staying awake while He prayed in the Garden of Gethsemane. (Matt 26:36)

And have you ever wished God’s will would have been different?

I sure have.

Jesus understands this too. He knows what’s it’s like to surrender to God’s will despite wishing there were another way.

The truth is, Jesus knows. He understands, and it is with this understanding that He is there by the Father in Heaven advocating for us!

He loves us so very much —so much in fact that He willingly died for us with complete understanding of us.

And with that, I gulp.

He not only understands all the hard things I’ve faced, He also knows every stupid and shameful sin I’ve willingly walked in.

And knowing this too, He still walked forward, His friends forsaking Him, all alone, to do for us what we could never do for ourselves.

I don’t want to brush pass the agony of the Garden of Gethsemane. Jesus understood all it would cost—the pain, the separation from God. He understood so very well that He prayed, not just once but three times, that if there be any other way for the Father to let the cup pass from Him.

But there was no other way.

And so the Savior walked alone to the Cross. This was why He came.

And later, one of the disciples who Jesus chose to go with Him to the garden, one of them who couldn’t stay awake, would see a vision and would fully understand—

“And I saw in the right hand of Him who sat on the throne a scroll written inside and on the back, sealed with seven seals. Then I saw a strong angel proclaiming with a loud voice, “Who is worthy to open the scroll and to loose its seals?” And no one in heaven or on the earth or under the earth was able to open the scroll, or to look at it.

So I wept much, because no one was found worthy to open and read the scroll, or to look at it. But one of the elders said to me, “Do not weep. Behold, the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, has prevailed to open the scroll and to loose its seven seals”.” (Rev 5:1-5)

Jesus who came as a baby, the Christ we just celebrated all over the world at Christmas, was and is the Only way. He alone is worthy! He prevailed and He will prevail! Oh, may we keep our eyes on Him! May we hold tight and watch for His return!
