God deals with us according to who He is, not according to who we are.
In the Parable of the Laborers, those who were hired last and only worked a short while for the master, received the same pay as those who had been sweating all day long. (Matt 20:1-16)
In our system of fairness, this seems wrong.
It seemed wrong to the the older (rule following) brother who sulked at the perceived lack of fairness, as the father lavishly loved the returning prodigal( Luke 15)
But what we who are saved have to continue to tell ourselves is that we follow Biblical principles and serve the Lord because we love God and trust that His ways are better than ours —-not because we are earning something or deserve a reward.
Let’s remember, we are saved by grace not by works lest any man should boast! (Eph 2:8-10)
Given the choice between fairness or grace, we who truly understand that we could never earn what Jesus did for us, should quickly choose grace!
And lets understand, the minute we start to think our efforts to follow Christ deserve some sort of payback from God, we give the enemy a foothold to rob our joy and replace it with jealousy and envy.
Oh friend, let’s look up with grateful hearts. Let’s keep our eye on the greatest prize —Jesus —and the blood-bought life He gave us that no one could earn or deserve !

I was in Matthew this morning. 15:8. I was questioning some feelings in my heart. That led me to 1Thessalonians. Started with the very last verse in chapter 5. I tend to jump around and my study seems to be guided by circumstances or chance. Becky told me that when this happens I should try to read the whole chapter to gain some context. So I did. He who calls you is faithful. You see, after last nights small group I was wondering if the way I worship and communicate with God was my wish instead of His. Is my heart with Him? Then I read Matthew 15, all of it. Do I believe? Yes. Is my heart capable of being deceived? Yes. But the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ is with me. Back to Matthew 15: 21-28. Bingo. FAITH !!!! trust the Lord to protect your heart from deceptions of the Devil. I feel better. My heart and mood lightened. He restores my soul. Be kind, Be Happy. Now off to fix some breakfast. I am hungry.
