The prophets said Jesus was coming, John the Baptist proclaimed He was here!
The Kingdom of Heaven was powerfully advancing and those who have ears should listen! (Matt 11:15)
As Jesus continues His earthly ministry, he warns those who had heard both he and John the Baptist offer them the chance to repent and choose to follow Him, but ignored it.
He goes on to lament that they had seen God at work, but refused to turn to Him and, instead, only criticized those bringing the message. (Matt 11:16-20)
The One who created the Universe then says, “Woe to you” (Matt 11:21)
Woe to those who refused to turn to Jesus then and those who refuse now.
Woe to those who have been brought up around the things of Christ, those who have been taught truth, prayed for, and who have absolutely seen the merciful hand of God, yet foolishly refuse to turn from their own ways to follow Jesus.
“Woe to you” was spoken by the Perfect Lamb and is a warning that should cause fear to those who continue to go their own way because a “day of judgment “ (Matt 11:24) is certainly coming.
One day, will be the last day, the very last chance, to turn from sin and turn to Christ —and not one of us knows when our last chance will be.
One day, it will be too late for those who thought they had more time.
Do you know when your very last breath will come? Who knows if your next heart beat could be your last?
And that’s sad. That’s scary. That causes my heart to be even more burdened for the lost. I feel such a sense of urgency. Do you?
Especially when I remember not only were the prophecies predicting the birth of Christ fulfilled , but there are also prophecies that predict the second coming. Will those be any less true?
In fact, the world seems to be closer than ever to many of those predictions being fulfilled! But so many are distracted or in sin up to their eyeballs.
They’ve heard truth, but they seem to only care about this temporary life and what they want to do now.
They are on the throne of their lives, and sadly, unable to make the themselves happy and find peace.
And that throne upon which they sit is teetering precariously on sinking sand, capable of completely crashing at any moment.
But Jesus stands with His arms wide open and says, “Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.”(Matt 11:28-30).
His arms are open. His mercy is great! If you’ve been running away from Jesus, it’s not too late to take that one step back to him. He is ready to save and forgive. And only He can give you the real rest your soul longs for!
And for those who call Him Lord, let’s not fail to tell about the goodness of the only One who can save!
What a Savior! What a Savior He is!!
