I study the Bible in order to apply it to my life because I trust God’s ways are right and better than mine.
I trust Him more than my emotions, my gut instinct, our culture, or how I was raised. I want to acknowledge Him in all my ways and count on Him to make my paths straight. (Prov 3:6)
As I read the Word, He gives me path-straightening direction.
As I continue to read in Matthew 10, Jesus sends out the disciples and tells them, “Freely you have received, freely give.” (10:8) and then goes on to say, “a worker is worthy of his food.” (10:10).
These verses have impacted my life and specifically my speaking ministry.
When churches ask me about my speaking fee, I’ve been led to respond that I don’t want a fee to dictate where I speak or do not. I ask the churches to give whatever they feel led to give and God has always provided. He’s often surprised me with the sweet generosity of smaller churches and has reminded me, again and again, that I am to be obedient to His leading and that He will take care of all the rest!
I don’t need a big stage or big following, I just need Him. There’s peace there. I’ve seen Him work there.
Friends, God has us. We can indeed rest in that as we seek to follow Him. Do I follow Him perfectly? Of course not, but He is kind and gracious. His Word tells us this too. He picks us up when we fall and gently leads us as we keep seeking to follow Him one day at a time, day after day, all the way home.
