Need Encouragement? Try this…

My heart goes out to the weary and the scattered. I know it’s my Savior who has placed them on my heart because they are on His heart too. His Word tells me —

In Matthew 9, Jesus has healed multitudes. He was moved with compassion for them because “they were weary and scattered, like sheep having no shepherd.” (Matt 9:36)

He will later say in Matt 11:28, one of my favorite passages, “Come to me all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.”

And Psalm 68:6 tells us, “God sets the lonely in families”.

Christ-in-me wants these things for others. Christians are to be His instruments for providing rest to the weary and drawing the lonely into community.

It’s a God-given desire. Oh may He give us eyes to see as He sees in this day!!

Who do you know who do you know who is weary? Who is lonely and in need of fellowship and community?

What about the single mom you know from church? How about the senior caregiver across the street?

I wonder, who came to your mind just then? Who can you encourage today?

And I know, many who read these words find themselves the one in hard situations needing encouragement.

I can’t help but be reminded of the Proverb that talks about he who refreshes others is himself refreshed (11:25).

I saw that in practice this past weekend as I stayed with my cousins widow. He’s been gone 11 years and her kids live in different states. But she fills her days checking on her elderly neighbors, delivering muffins and running errands for them. She also works hard to teach English to young Afghan and Hispanic moms through her church.

She’s encouraging others and, in turn, finding herself encouraged. That’s no small thing.

Oh friend, may we be about our Father’s business. Indeed, that’s no small thing.

  1. Dear Kim, I get so many emails these days that I don’t always have time to read them all. I am one of those that this post spoke to. My oldest son is where he thinks he belongs, in California, where he feels their laws are more agreeable with his beliefs. He calls me in such distress because things are going terribly. He’s like the prodigal son living in the pig pen, and all alone, but not wanting to admit he needs his family and people who love him to support him, but on top of that he has a mental illness that doesn’t let him see ANY good in those that love him. I pray that he’ll seek help from someone who can help him, and come to Jesus for healing.

    1. Oh Gina. That breaks my heart. I’m so sorry for this hard road but so thankful for our God who pursues the prodigal. I trust that in my own life and hold on in the hard days knowing He loves them more than we do. May He strengthen you and hold you tight. Praying.
