Celebrating sin is never loving

Recently, someone posted a comment suggesting my writing about biblical truth relating to sexuality leads to depression and suicide in those living lifestyles opposite of it.

I typically don’t respond to negative comments, but I do want to address this as I think it’s relevant to where we are in our study of Matthew.

I believe this person views herself as caring as do many with similar views.

But let’s consider just how caring this short-sighted view actually is.

This perspective focuses on temporary feel-goodness, in this but-a-breath-life, while ignoring the eternal security of those who are lost and headed for eternal destruction.

I thought about this, as I continued in my reading of Matthew. In chapter nine, Jesus famously encounters the paralyzed man (who we are told in Luke is lowered by his friends through a roof).

But BEFORE healing the man of his infirmity, Jesus says “your sins are forgiven”. (Matt 9:2)

And here’s the thing, temporary pain or emotional distress on this earth are no comparison to the horrific, eternal pain caused by unforgiven sin that forever separates the lost from God in Hell.

The person who commented, accused me of throwing stones, but the fact is, she ultimately has a problem with God and not with me.

She thinks people can ignore the Lord and His commands and be happy. This is just wrong, and places our own reasoning and sentiment above an all-knowing, righteous God.

What’s more, I emphatically believe that those who call themselves Christ followers, but refuse to lovingly warn those living opposite of biblical truth, are not only shortsighted, but incredibly unloving.

For, how can you truly love someone and not tell them of the forgiveness and freedom found only in Jesus?

Christian, we are all just beggars telling other beggars where we found bread! Eternal bread!! But that comes from a surrender of our ways to His better ways.

And those who look beyond the temporary, and see others as eternal beings, who will live forever in Heaven or Hell, and care enough to risk their own comfort or popularity to share truth, are truly being kind.

So, let me say once again, as kindly as I can —syrupy sweet acceptance and celebration of sin is never loving, is absolutely not Christ-like, but is exactly the opposite.

  1. More and more this very true statement you have made is going to “offend” more of those choosing to comfort loved ones, themselves, or friends sinful choices in this life. It doesn’t mean we are to be rude and hateful it simply means if you are a true follower of Jesus you cannot, the Holy Spirit will not allow you, to comfort someone in their sin. It is what it is as they say…thank you for being so steadfast in your faith! It isn’t easy, prayers for you daily.
