When the storms come…

The thunder pounded. The whole house shook and lightning danced across the sky.

I love it. I love storms as they remind me of the awesome power of God—the greatness of the Lord God Almighty.

I feel small as I watch the heavens pour forth rain and the wind churn the Tennessee River by my house.

Storms remind me of the invisible, but purposeful, power of our Mighty God.

Our Good Father is at work. He is absolutely in control. (Prov 19:21, 16:9)

He has all that concerns His children.(Matt 6:25-34)

He knows every thought before it is ever on our tongues. (Psalm 139:4)

He covers us in the shadow of His wing. (Psalm 91:4)

There is not a day we will live apart from His presence—His uncontainable, powerful presence. (Psalm 139:7-12)

He is not a far-off, uninvolved Father as some might think Him to be.

No, He is a friend who is closer than a brother. (Prov 18:24) He is shield about His children and the lifter of our heads (Psalm 3:3) He directs our steps as we trust Him. (Prov 3:5-6)

May our eyes look for Him in this day. May our ears listen for His still small voice above the whipping winds of this world. May our hearts truly seek Him above all.

For when we do, we find Him.

We find His peace, His hope, His joy that is the steady in the kinds of storms this life sends our way.

May we remember He can use even those kind of storms, life storms, the storms many are walking through right now, to water our souls—to show us His power and His abiding presence.
