Since we were children, the enemy has been whispering to us about what’s wrong with us, where we are lacking; and he continually tells us we are woefully unworthy.
He surrounds us all with distorted, neon images of worldly perfection.
Everywhere we look, from magazines covers to social media posts, the evil one tries to convince us, we just don’t measure up.
He does all he can to tear us down.
He whispers, “If only you were enough, if only you were worthy to be wanted.”
And, the fact is, we all want to be wanted.
And then, after battering us, he lies to us about what being loved and wanted looks like.
He sends in the counterfeits, things like— The Bachelor, Fifty Shades of Grey, -and Pornography.
He uses those dangerous distortions to get us to miss the authentic and buy the lie.
Many look for identity and love in all the wrong places.
We fall for the wrong people, and demand that another human being love us louder than the lies we’ve believed.
Some swipe through one bad relationship only to fall for the next.
Some think happiness would be found if they were a different gender or were in a same-sex relationship, then, then, they could be their “true selves”. Then they’d be wanted.
Some look for it in fame and fortune.
But in all the seeking and searching , still, they come up empty.
So empty.
And they feel less wanted with each passing year of trying to measure up to being worthy of being worldly wanted.
But oh, if we would but tune our ears to hear the pursuing voice of the Lover of our souls.
No human love can compare.
For God sees us as we truly are.
He knows all you’ve ever done, He knows your imperfections and your weaknesses. Nothing is hidden from Him.
And still, He wants YOU.
He wants you so much that He willingly gave His life for you.
There is no greater, no purer love.
It can’t be earned. Only received.
It isn’t forced. It’s offered.
It isn’t self-seeking but sacrificial.
It isn’t conditional. It’s forever.
The love of Christ is real. And the truth of it silences the lies of the one who is hell-bent on your destruction.
But we have to deliberately wash our minds with truth everyday to fight the lies of the enemy, because he will continue to lie to us.
