Sunday Thoughts

We sat together last night and talked about Jesus, the Word, and the world.

His tattoo reads, “Finish Well.”

And I thought to myself, it’s just pretty cool that we ever even started this journey of faith.

My cousin and I don’t come from a long line of faith. In fact, just a couple of generations ago alcoholism and poverty wreaked havoc on our family. The stories I heard my dad tell of his childhood are heartbreaking.

But in the midst of all the mess and brokenness, chains were broken. Light stepped into the darkness, and Jesus changed things.

And as I sit here pondering how God changed things for us, I remember there is nothing too hard for Him.

No prodigal too far gone.
No family too messed up.
No nation too immune from revival.

Our God is still in the business of changing lives.

We can choose to repeat the sins of those who came before us, or we can grab hold of a a Heavenly Father who will lift us out of the muck and mire and set our feet on a firm foundation of hope and truth.

If Jesus did it for us, He will surely do it for anyone who calls upon His Name.

I can’t help but think of the words of the psalmist this Sunday morning—

“He drew me up from the pit of destruction,
out of the miry bog,
and set my feet upon a rock,
making my steps secure.
He put a new song in my mouth,
a song of praise to our God.
Many will see and fear,
and put their trust in the LORD.

Blessed is the man who makes
the LORD his trust,
who does not turn to the proud,
to those who go astray after a lie!
You have multiplied, O LORD my God,
your wondrous deeds and your thoughts toward us;
none can compare with you!
I will proclaim and tell of them,
yet they are more than can be told” (Psalm 40:2-5)

And because of Jesus, because of what He has done, “I will proclaim and tell of them, yet they are more than can be told.”
