Therefore, stand fast in the Lord. (Phil 4:1)
Not in your own strength.
Not in your own thoughts.
Not in your own resources.
Not in your own ways.
In the Lord.
All other ground is sinking sand.
Paul has just talked about eternity, our true home, and how one day our lowly bodies will be transformed. Everything we’ve ever worried about will be no more.
All wrong will be made right.
Tears will cease.
Disease will be no more.
Peace will come.
Our faith will become sight! Our eyes will behold the Savior!
As Tolkien posed, all sad things will become untrue, for those who belong to the Lord.
And it is with this thought that we STAND in the Lord until then.
We stand on His truth.
We follow His ways.
We refute lies and temptation.
We squash fears when we turn our eyes to Jesus and stand on the solid ground of His promises.
Oh friend, all that Paul has been imploring us to believe, in this wonderful letter of Philippians, is the truth that compels us to stand!
We are standing in victory because of Jesus. And as Paul wrote in Romans, —Nothing can separate us!
“Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or danger, or sword? As it is written,
“For your sake we are being killed all the day long; we are regarded as sheep to be slaughtered.”
No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.” (Rom 8:35-39)
Oh please, will you slowly read those true, holy words above again?
Do you have anything going on in your life that can separate you from the love of Christ? Can you imagine anything that could ever come into your life to separate you from the rock-solid, powerful, keep-you-going love of Christ?
There is not! There won’t ever be!
So, in this day, stand fast! Stand strong in Christ! The troubles in this life are but temporary. The Word of the Lord is sure and His children need to remember and rest in His promises.
We are the ones with HOPE in this dark world! May others be drawn to the light that is in us! May we shine brightly for the King!
For He is good! And He is coming again!!
