I know I’m slow-walking through the end of Second Timothy. It’s just so packed-full of truth that even parts of sentences stop me in my tracks.
“Be diligent to come to me quickly; for Demas has forsaken me, having loved this present world,” (2 Tim 4:9)
Those who love the world, it’s comforts and pleasures (money, sex, the praise of others, power), will often forsake the cause of Christ for their own selfish gain.
They will compromise, and refute truth, and forsake other believers, in order to keep their illicit love affair with the world going.
Watch for these.
Beware of these.
I suspect as we approach the End of Days we will see many, whom we thought solid in the faith, fall away.
We are seeing this happen now.
Be on guard, but also be on guard in your own life.
Our hearts are deceitful (Jer 17:9) and our world-focused affections can lead us astray.
Our affection for spiritual leaders can also lead us astray if we put so much trust in them that we never test what they are saying and doing by God’s Word.
We have to learn to pay attention to that “check in our spirit” that tells us something isn’t right. Have you experienced this?
As believers we have the Holy Spirit inside of us. He speaks-he warns, he convicts us of sin, he teaches, he brings to our minds the truth we need to remember and walk in. (John 14:26)
He will NEVER tell us to be for something God has said is not good in His Word.
Let’s pray to pay attention to His voice and heed His warnings.
Yes, perilous times will come (2 Tim 3:1), evil men and imposters will grow worse deceiving and being deceived (2Tim 3:13) But you must continue in the things which you have learned and been assured of, knowing from whom you have learned them(2 Tim 3:14).
But the Helper (Comforter, Advocate, Intercessor—Counselor, Strengthener, Standby), the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name [in My place, to represent Me and act on My behalf], He will teach you all things. And He will help you remember everything that I have told you. (John 14:26, Amplified Bible).
He has us! Pay attention to His voice above all others!
