Don’t grow weary.

There is nothing like the right word, at just the right time, to lift your soul.

Paul is about to set his pen down on his second letter to the believers in Thessalonica, when he says, “But as for you, brethren, do not grow weary in doing good.” (2 Thess 3:13)

And my weary, worn heart needed that. Maybe yours does too?

Doing good means doing, working, keeping on, even though—
Long suffering means long suffering.
Loving the unlovely means others act unlovely, and often, toward you.
Doing good to those who hurt you means you’ve been hurt or may get hurt.
Not repaying evil for evil means there is evil.
Giving to those who have taken from you means things have been taken from you.

Bumps and bruises. And the good you do, is often unappreciated, and worse, sometimes misunderstood.

Some days, I just want to box some people in the ears. I want to jump in the bed and cover my head. I want to quit caring, and forgiving, and trying to get others to walk away from sin and toward Jesus.

And it’s funny, that in just THESE kind of days, that the Lord would have my eyes land on that verse.

❤️Don’t grow weary in doing good. ❤️

And as I read His Word, I’m again reminded that our precious Lord sees every moment our hearts choose to keep on doing good when we may be tempted to just stop.

And it is the Lord, Who is forever our strength to keep on doing good.

For He was good to us before we ever even gave Him a thought!

We don’t have what we need on our own. None of us.

We have to daily draw from His well so living water can flow through us.

So the right word, at the right time, will encourage us, direct our steps, lift our heads, and even correct our wrong thinking. Again and again.

And most of us know that, but some days, we still FEEL like quitting.

Paul knew we’d feel this way.

It helps to just read those words of that dear old saint in his letter saying, “don’t grow weary in doing good”.

And to remember, He who is in us is greater than He who is in the world.

And as I thought on all of this, this old song popped in my head —

“You are my strength when I am weak
You are the treasure that I seek
You are my all in all
Seeking You as a precious jewel
Lord, to give up I’d be a fool
You are my all in all

Taking my sin, my cross, my shame
Rising again I bless Your name
You are my all in all
When I fall down You pick me up
When I am dry You fill my cup
You are my all in all

Jesus, Lamb of God
Worthy is Your name
Jesus, Lamb of God
Worthy is Your name”
(Jernigan)

Because Jesus is so very worthy! Let’s keep on doing good!
